It is designed to boost awareness of enviornmental issues promoting the use of reusable chopsticks instead of the disposable wooden kind.
It is common to use the disposable wooden chopsticks in restaurants to save time for dish washing in Taiwan, Japan and China. Japan is probably one of the largest users of wooden chopsticks among the three countries. It is estimated that 23 million of trees are cut off for the use of wooden chopsticks. And China has recently announced their plan to stop the export of disposable chopsticks to reduce the deforestation.
